Diaspora and Ethnic Unity

We affirm that diaspora communities should be setting examples of ethnic unity for the people in their homeland.

However, many of them fail to convey the newly found ethnic unity they experience in their host lands where various ethnicities would exist with mutual understanding.

Therefore, members of diaspora communities should take advantage of their united ethnic living in their host land and should set an example for the citizens in their own homelands by showing the possibilities of understanding each other as fellow human beings and co-existence.

Thesis Background
Understanding diaspora communities and the calling to minister among them have been my driving forces. The burden of learning new ways of involving them to keep them connected to their homelands keeps growing in me, day by day. And this is one of the initiatives that I would like to encourage the diaspora communities to work for. The members of diaspora communities who have come from ethnically diverse and troubled homelands have a greater responsibility to reflect back in their homelands the ethnic unity and flexibility that they experience in their newly found environment. After going through various changes within themselves, and through the various migrant experiences, the immigrants find a new life in their newly-found community that includes various ethnicities. The flexibility and the level of mutual consent they had learned to share in a multi ethnic environment in their host land is an influential example for them to show back. Understanding new environments, people, cultures and their lifestyle would be enabling the immigrants to treat each other with mutual respect and understanding, while preserving the basic approach that all are human beings who strive for the same food, clothing and shelter; the basic human needs. The kind of exposure that they experience as members in a diasporic community in the host land is something that lacks in their homelands. This unavailability would have reduced common interests and interactions between their same ethnicities in their own homelands, and as a result there would have been misunderstandings that would even lead to ethnic conflicts. Diaspora in any host land becomes a great example in terms of the flexibility, understanding of various people and their cultures and adjustment to ensure a better life. Thus, the members of a diaspora community should take initiatives to reflect back and convey this life of understanding and treating people as human beings with the same basic needs in their lives. This would enable their own people at their home lands to learn lessons on ethnic-unity from these diaspora communities. A united and peaceful world would be created when each human being begins to treat each other with mutual respect and total understanding.
